Bawean
We’ve visited Bawean in each monsoon and have four anchorages to offer.
Bawean South anchorage
S5.51.447 E112.38.017
8m, mud
Take dinghy ashore to dock where you’ll see the Roll on Roll off Ferries dock. You can walk into Sangkapura in about 20 minutes and the waterfront road there is lined with varying shops and “hey misters”. Town is a bit shabby but you’ll find an ATM and small market there.
Bawean North-east anchorage
S5.43.965 E112.40.290
2.5m, sand
Gorgeous wide open but well protected bay with sandy bottom and fringing reef. Sandy beach to leave your dinghy on. Warung at the village and shopping and eating at the larger town over the hill and about a 20 minute walk. Beware of tug and barges – we nearly got hit by one that was out of control trying to move.
Pulau Gili Noko anchorage
S5°47’99 E112°45’97
20m, sand
Care needs to be taken when entering this anchorage as the reef extends much further than the charts. There are numerous isolated bombies as well. Room for one boat. A local fisherman showed us inside the reef and we tipped him with a can of beer. The reef here is good for snorkelling. Ashore is a small warung and good walking along the beach.
Day anchorage off Gili Noko
S5.52.15 E112.42.10
20m, sand.
We stopped here for a swim and snorkel but were disappointed with the coral and rubbish on the beach.
* On Tramp we use a combination of navigational tools. While all efforts are made to record the correct information, mistakes happen and things change. These are our notes which we’d like to share but not to be used for navigational purposes. Any errors or updates, please let us know!
We’ve visited Bawean twice and have had lovely experiences both times.
Things to do ashore
- Hire a scooter and explore
- Walk through villages, say hello to everyone
- Eat out. We had an amazing ikan bakar at the below restaurant. In the north village by the bridge.
